One phrase that stopped resonating with me over time:
Work–life balance.
I understand what people mean by it.
But it assumes work and life are separate things.
They’re not.
It’s all life.
If you’re working, that’s your life.
If you’re with your family, that’s your life.
If you’re leading a team or making decisions that
affect others, that’s your life too.
So the question becomes something different.
If this is my life, how much of it am I investing in the
things I’m actually meant to be doing?
Sometimes that’s your unique role on the team.
Sometimes it’s what only you can do for your family.
Sometimes it’s the deeper purpose you feel called to.
The key is becoming aware of it.
And then looking for the opportunities to align how
you spend your time and energy with that.
This clip is a piece of how I think about that.
It’s also a conversation I find myself having often
with leaders who are operating at a new level.
